Remember to open your eyes to everything around you. I often forget to look up. I’m trying to remember more…reminding myself to stop, take a break, look around. There is usually something pretty spectacular above me when I’m on the bike trail. A beautiful tree canopy, clouds, birds.
It’s easy to forget about the world we live in and keep marching toward our destination with our proud, relentless focus. The Goal. Get there, get it done! I’m now realizing that while goals can be useful, the goal is often only a catalyst for something much more important that will happen along the way. If we look at the person next to us, do we know them? Can we help them, can they help us? Where did our path toward this goal take us? Who did we meet? What did we discover? What did we learn?
There is nothing inherently wrong with goals — we just need to remember to keep our eyes open. To hold our minds open and keep that quiet space. Pay attention to the world that is passing by. It’s trying to teach us something.
