Yesterday evening as my family and I played a rousing game of Clue in our dining room, a great Spring storm blew through. It brought lightning, thunder, hail, cold winds, and heavy rain. We heard the thunder before we saw the lightning, and quickly broke from our game. All of us started watching for a bolt or a flash out our windows. The lightning would show itself and my family would yelp in joy. Then, a few seconds later, the slow, low rolling of thunder would come through. The intensity of the storm was inspiring.
What inspired me more was how easily all of us stayed in the moment and fully appreciated how special that storm was. It seemed that each us intuitively recognized the magic of the moment and appreciated it for all it was worth. There is something about the power of lightning and thunder that not only energizes us and purifies us, but helps us feel connected to the world at large.
After the storm had moved on, it gave us a magnificent display of clouds and rainbows in the sunset as it moved over the mountains, treating us to occasional light shows across it’s pink clouds. It was wonderful. It left behind a refreshed landscape with air that was cool, calm and clean, and so were we.
